What You See Is What You Get

Today is the feast day of the Apostle St. Bartholomew or also known as St. Nathaniel. He was the close friend of St. Phillip. When Phillip spoke with Nathaniel about having found the Messiah Jesus Christ from Nazareth, Nathaniel said “Can anything good come from Nazareth?”. Phillip responded with “Come and see”. So when Phillip brought Nathaniel to introduce him to Jesus, Jesus responded with “Behold an Israelite with no guile”. No guile meaning: simple, sincere, transparent. Nathaniel exhibited these qualities, essentially telling the world “What you see, is what you get”.  Do you and I have the same attitude, that when people meet us or interact with us, they can say the same thing? Within the context of our family and close friends, these three attitudes make us more trustworthy. Let us ask St. Nathaniel that he help us to be simple, sincere, transparent in all our relationships, that is, to be “Ipse Christus”, Christ to all people.
