For Californians, today is a special day where we honor once again St. Junipero Serra, a Spanish priest who founded the missions throughout California. Those were challenging times, where he leaned on the grace of God to help the Native Indians discover a personal God, a God that loved them and wanted them to know Him and Love Him. As we reflect on St. Junipero, we can ask his intercession to help us also be on fire for souls, to win everyone back to God. St. Josemaria Escriva had this same zeal when he wrote in The Way, point 934: “Apostolic Zeal is a divine craziness I want you to have. Its symptoms are: hunger to know the Master; constant concern for souls; perseverance that nothing can shake”. As we begin today the 2nd half of the year, let’s ask God to help us have the same mindset as St. Junipero had, that we are on a mission to win souls for Christ and to help us be that good bait so that He can reel in souls to Heaven through our help and love for every person we encounter throughout the day!
