Today is one of the most beloved feast days in the Church, and of course especially in Mexico, where our Lady appeared to a Mexican peasant St. Juan Diego in 1531, in Mexico City. Our Lady is truly our Heavenly Mother and she never stops loving us. Her words to Juan Diego always move me when I read them, words which she spoke to him precisely on December 12, 1531, about his ailing uncle: “My son, let nothing trouble you. Am I, your Mother, not here? Are you not under my protection? Am I not life and health? Are you not in my embrace, and are you not my concern? Do you need anything else? Do not fear for your uncle, for he is now cured.” Let us never forget that she is our Mother and she comes through whenever we go to her for anything. She is a Jewish Mother. I love Jewish moms because they, like the Jewish moms who didn’t let the Apostles stop them from having Jesus bless their children, always get their way. All our Lady needs to do is just look at Jesus. She asks him for what we need and He can’t deny her anything. She always gets her way!
